Let's meet Tom, one of our painters that's part of the Garage & Bodyshop team here at the Motorist. The owner of this 1962 Comer 1500 PA Campervan that was purchased about 3 years ago, initially it was in pretty rough condition inside-out, but would you just look at it now!

While he was looking for a campervan, a VW Camper more precise, he stumbled across the Comer and realised quickly that there aren't that many around and thought it would be pretty interesting and cool to own. He found this one after looking for a few months and stumbled across a listing in the UK, although it was still in California at the time of the purchase. Being a Californian Import meant the paint was rather poor, but the rust was not a major issue which sealed the deal.

So after the car got shipped ''across the pond'' he started doing a full nut & bolt restoration. The body has been repainted in the original two tone by Tom himself. The body and the underside of the car have been sandblasted, including all of the suspension components. It has also received a full engine rebuild, going from a 1.5L engine to a 1.8L (standard it was offered with both engine variants), now pushing an impressive 61bhp! It's just been put back on the road recently, now waiting to be fully converted to a camper again, including a new kitchen, bed and all the other storage compartments to make this a great van to travel with. Although for the moment, Tom is really happy to be able to drive it and enjoy it, he cannot wait until this is ready for some European trips.
